And… since Ashli Babbitt’s family received $5M related to her death, when should the families of those killed including Renee Good, Keith Porter and Alex Pretti expect to receive the same???

Marilyn Martin's avatar

And now those pardoned Jan. 6 convicts are looking for money as payment for false imprisonment. There needs to be a reckoning to unravel all these payments to Trumpites who are so gullible as to believe his lies.

And suing us for the fisherman kills. This will turn out to be a very costly admin and will go on for a very long time.

This article brings up how our rights are all subjective now, depending on what the administration has to say. This is a bad place for our country to be.

Andrew Weissman is at the top of my list of honorable individuals on whom I can always rely for accurate, brilliant analysis and commentary. His questions need to be answered immediately, followed by prosecuting the completely out of control ICE Agents.

Peggy Smith's avatar

Ditto from my sad red state of Oklahoma

Susan White's avatar

They are "out of control" because they are MEANT to be out of control. They are being hired because they are inherently violent and aggressive, they have been told they have "absolute immunity," and in addition they are not being trained in anything resembling sound law enforcement policies and procedures.

Barbara B's avatar

In my perfect world Congress would be moving not only to hold DHS agents accountable for past actions not consistent with 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 10th Amendment, but also to regularize training and future operations to be consistent with how local law enforcement conducts operations to be consistent with those and other Constitutional requirements, in particular not to interfere with operations of states executing their rights and responsibilities or to assist except @ the request of the state governor AND the order of the President.

I also have the upmost respect for Andrew Weissman and the knowledge he articulates in an understandable manner to the masses. We all need to do something! Thank you Andrew for sharing your knowledge!

Astute questions that beg administration answers (truthful, if that isn’t asking too much).

It was murder. In Cold Blood, linked below, explains that almost frame by frame with photos (screen shots from the pink hat lady video). Three peaceful observers were physically assaulted. One was violently physically assaulted, and worse, one was clearly murdered by illegal lethal force. After the fact, federally enforced impunity resulted in criminal obstruction of justice in a conspiracy. The conspiracy involves two heads of cabinet-level agencies and the President of the United States, et al. Watch from the moment that ICE Agent 1 exits his vehicle.

Send this to every Democratic Senator and House Representative so they ask actual questions and don’t waste precious time pontificating and campaigning.

Kathleen's avatar

We ALL need to send these to 10 questions to Congress, demanding they be answered. That’s our assignment.

Mary Ann Kundert's avatar

An independent investigation, on both federal and state levels, is necessary.

I wish you still worked in government & could lead the charge.

You may have heard Professor Weissmann mention the 'Stanford Prison Experiment' the other day when talking about the brutality we have all witnessed among ICE and DHS officers. Many of you will know this famous study, or will know about it, but if you don't (or want to refresh your memory) there is a YouTube video in which the director of the study, Professor Philip Zimbardo of Stanford University, describes the study and reflects on its outcomes. Although it remains controversial, the Stanford Prison Experiment seems to be relevant to what we are all witnessing on the streets of our cities at present. The link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nss1IW4j_Mg

Gloria Wetzel's avatar

Thank you. I didn’t know about the study.

Who will be deputized to ask these questions? Congress is missing in action when it comes to its oversight responsibilities, the White House Press Corps has been decimated and now is mainly made up of loyalists, journalists allow the drivel put out by the Administration to go unchallenged, and the bits and pieces of answers we MIGHT get from suits filed on behalf of the victims will come only very, very slowly. But of course, to have these questions in mind as things unfold is most helpful to all those of us who must look on from the sidelines. (I just wish that you could be there to put them to the Administration in person. I know that you would not stop asking until you had the answers.) Grateful, as always.

I have utmost respect for Andrew Weissman, how does a 70-year-old woman engage? I'm no longer in my 40’s, have disabilities, and can no longer work. There are many of us out there who just don't know what to do and are still being bombarded with texts, surveys, and requests for money.

Jeannie Essling's avatar

Write emails to your representatives and don’t stop there, write a couple everyday, write to those who remain silent. Inundate our elected officials with our demands for peace and justice. They read the polls, but millions of letters/emails from citizens demanding justice will make a difference. And it doesn’t need to be a lengthy post. Just a couple of sentences is all it takes. Keep the faith!

NLE's avatar

I can send emails and make phone calls. I have worked with state and federal government agencies for years. I will do any survey that doesn't ask for money. I must get 15 requests a day. I am recovering from a stroke and doing very well. I really want to join the normal world again.

There are groups with Slack channels as well for a broader community networking connection.

If you’re interested in helping boost critical elections I’d suggest looking into Vote Save America. Once in that network there is access to their Slack network which is well organized (regional & by topic)

Gloria Wetzel's avatar

Yes I have the Congressional phone # and send emails.

Are you able to walk? I’m 73 and I went to the office of my representative this morning. I made and appointment and ended up meeting with staff from my representative and one senator. That was arranged by a staffer in my senators office who couldn’t meet. I had a list and expressed my concerns. My most important concern was not funding ICE. I have found by going to their offices I get better response and I usually end up going 3-4 times a year. Will anything come of it? I doubt it but I feel as though I did something. Both offices are republicans. I’m fortunate that the offices are downtown and parking is easily available.

Make calls to elected officials. Can you make protest signs? These may seem small, but they matter!

Gloria Wetzel's avatar

You are staying engaged and commenting. That counts. I’m 84 and will continue to do this and protest in the streets.

Lalla Ward's avatar

Terrific questions. Will anyone answer them?

Richard Nieto's avatar

Deborah, I cannot believe that Andrew has to come up with these questions and that you have to suggest that he should have to ask all Senators and Representatives (Dem or Rep) to ask these questions ! Shouldn't they be doing this themselves without any prompt from Andrew ?

How can any family member, friend or constituent of any Senator or Representative have any respect their Senator or Representative if they do not raise these questions such as these in the circumstances ? There should be an avalanche of questions !

Bob Fader's avatar

Well reasoned. Lets hope the the Minnesota litigation presses for these answers. Additionally, I hope the families of both victims bring claims against these lawless agents!

I don't think there is any doubt of the families suing the shit out of the government. Good's family has already hired attorneys, and have had a private autopsy performed, which specified which shots actually killed her, and where they were on her body. The Pretti family is obviously grief stricken, but are also hopping angry, and they are making it known. Good for them. They are NOT holding back, and I have no doubt at all that they are consulting with attorneys as we speak. They want their boy back; not in the hands of the goons who murdered him. I cannot wait until these lawsuits are filed, and heard in court. They will, I'm presuming, be of a civil nature, at least initially, as ICE has not come forward with the actual murderers of Pretti, but civil rights violations are a good place to start. Indictments are not needed in civil cases, and juries' decisions are easier to obtain. The defendants will be abundant, no doubt: DT, Bovino, Noem, Miller, and with the Good murder, obviously Ross. Let the suits be filed, and justice served. That will be a new concept for this murderous regime.

Sabrina Hanan's avatar

Unfortunately there is no law that supports civil action against FLEO. This was addressed by Goode's atty in the committee hearing on ICE violence yesterday.

RRiveter's avatar

Not fully true. See this Yahoo article: "It’s tough to sue federal officers — but there is a path for victims of ICE’s abuse". Good's attorney needs to do more thorough homework on civil law and options against Federal officers.

Ada Fuller's avatar

Our Congress and national press should all be asking these questions, then reporting on the answers or the non-answers. We need to show everyone how this administration either says ,”look over there,” or just plain lies!

NAME IT PLEASE.

Words have power.

A CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS. Among many statute and constitutional abuses he is attacking Federalism to dismantle states rights and subvert the 2026 elections and beyond. We have been in a slow rolling constitutional crisis for a long time, no clear cusp. The cusp is here. Pull the fire alarm.

Why won’t anyone call it?

CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS

Is now

Pretti helped a woman shoved onto a curb who was doing nothing but filming w her phone. The shoving is not an accepted procedure if not followed by an arrest therefore outside of standard SOP.

Pretti and the woman he helped and another woman Pretti helped were then all sprayed with pepper spray within 2ft directly in the face which is an illegal use of the chemical deterrant. Pretti put his arm up to deflect the spray and obviously was not holding a gun.

An agent is videod repeatedly striking Pretti in the head with the butt of a gun while face down and immobilized by agents. This is illegal use of force and a firearm as Pretti was immobilized.

Pretti concealed his weapon in a holster in the six position which is in the small of the back. This is a recommended carry for concealed weapons and is fully legal.

When the agent in the tan jacket took Pretti's gun out of its holster he yelled gun then ran away. While he was running he discharged Pretti's firearm. He did not yell that the weapon was retreived. This is illegal and demonstrates cowardice.

Then 2 other agents fired into Pretti's face down unmoving body a total of 10 shots. This is illegal as there was no evidence of a threat and repeated shots are illegal as each shot is a separate event that requires Assessment of threat.

Agents rendered no aid and this is required therefore these actions are illegal.

The agents moved the body to count bullet holes which is destruction evidence which is illegal.

The agents clapped and made sadistic remarks about their execution. This demonstrates behavior that is not within any LE SOP.

These men were sadistic.

Midget Mussolini Bovino, Noem, Homan, Miller, Kevin Roberts and the Heritage Foundation, Congressional RethugliCons, the Trump Crime and Terrorist Regime have all not only burned the Constitution and the Rule of Law to the ground (key note-that works BOTH WAYS so be on notice), they are burning the Republic to the ground and trying to push us to literal war. Heritage Foundation funds and architected what is happening and they pushing full force ahead on their P25 and indoctrinating a swath of MAGATS to war. All of these fascists and Christo-Fascists MUST BE STOPPED. And they must receive severe and significant consequences for their words and actions.
