Standing Upright In The Wind
The New Podcast Episode Of Main Justice – BTH, Vol 3.1.f
The title of this week’s episode of our podcast Main Justice — "Standing Upright In The Wind" — comes from a quote from A Man For All Seasons about Thomas More (spoiler alert, I read it on the pod). It seems so apt given what we are experiencing.
A Man for All Seasons
William Roper: “So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!”
Sir Thomas More: “Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?”
William Roper: “Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!”
Sir Thomas More: “Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down, and you're just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!”
― Robert Bolt, A Man for All Seasons: A Play in Two Acts
On our podcast this week, we take a closer look at the arrest of Columbia student and permanent legal resident Mahmoud Khalil by ICE agents. Alongside Mary McCord, we break down the petition filed by his lawyer and why this case is a signal of broader trends to come (as Trump vowed). A hearing looms over the government’s push to deport the student, who is in detention right now.
We also turn to the Trump administration’s escalating attacks—not just on individuals, but on institutions. After cutting federal funding to Columbia and seeing Georgetown rebuked by the DC U.S. Attorney for teaching diversity, equity, and inclusion, and more attacks on defense law firms, it’s clear that the legal and educational communities are under intense political pressure. We unpack what this means for law firms and universities navigating these challenges.
Finally, we delve into the latest developments in the Eric Adams case, including a surprising court filing that reveals texts from prosecutors. Plus, we flag a range of significant cases currently moving through the courts—on their way to the Supreme Court.

Thank you as always for reminding us every day of what matters in such a calm but incredibly forceful way!! I just read an Instagram post about the powerful John Williams music from “Schindler’s List” I don’t understand why more people don’t (can’t?) see what’s happening now!!
President Zelinskey berated by a US president who votes with Moscow, China, Iran etc. Zelenskyy is a heroic leader, a grandson of a Holocaust survivor who saw several brothers lost to the Nazis. AND we are banning the books that tell some of the stories !? 🙏🙏🙏🇺🇦🇺🇸
Thank you again 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
It is such a bloody relief to see you here!!!!!! Thank you for telling the truth, for being wise, for being so damned knowledgeable, for being so brave. Damn. What a relief. PolitiSage will instantly recommend you. We don’t have a lot of people, but the people we have are sooooooooo brilliant.
