Live From Princeton
The New Podcast Episode Of Main Justice – BTH, Vol 4.3.d
This week, Mary and I recorded the episode in front of a live audience at my alma mater, Princeton University. We began with the latest in the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case—where, last Tuesday, Maryland District Judge Paula Xinis ordered the Trump administration to put “butts in seats” and explain what, if anything, they’ve done to bring him back.
From there, we unpack the whirlwind that led to the Supreme Court’s early Saturday morning decision temporarily halting the deportation of additional Venezuelan migrants, after a rapid-fire exchange between the Solicitor General and the ACLU.
Being back at Princeton, I couldn’t help but reflect on the critical importance of academic freedom and institutional independence—especially as Trump threatens to defund universities that don’t bow to his political agenda.
We close with a quick look at the Supreme Court’s move to grant argument in the birthright citizenship case—not on the core constitutional question, but on whether a nationwide injunction is even appropriate in this instance.
Further reading: I strongly recommend Judge Harvie Wilkinson’s sharply worded opinion for the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, rejecting the Trump administration’s attempt to block a lower court order requiring the government to facilitate Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s return. You can find it [here].
