I love you Andrew but they DON'T CARE about our rights...they're beating people, disappearing people, dragging citizens out of their cars, and killing citizens. What do we do??

Deborah Poitevent's avatar

Agreed. I value the information, however we are now in a world where ICE doesn’t give a darn about factual predication to pursue “arrest”. THEY DON’T CARE. They have been directed to push the limits. Rule of law has been “disappeared.”

Jeanne Ebersole's avatar

100% way too positive and not what is happening on the ground.

Ana warner's avatar

Make our officials listen!! Call daily and demand that arrest warrants be issued, agents arrested and jailed. Let the republicans sue to get US to stop .

lucie's avatar

Exactly what planet are they living on.

Bonnie MacEvoy's avatar

At what point did the agent identify himself to her? Do they not see how someone could masquerade as an agent and do away with a person's wallet, ID or disappear the individual? He never gave his name or explained his authority to have the right to violate her privacy. The costume is not enough. With anonymity often comes misbehavior.

Anne's avatar

Agreed -- if they are not required to identify themselves even through badges or ID on uniforms, how do we know that this person or these people are actually employees?

Emilie H.'s avatar

Exactly! Americans of all political stripes are angry about the covered faces, the lack of respect, and many of them suspect these people include the J6 thugs.

JP4M's avatar

Some ICE people have been reported to have taken and kept a person’s ID, I believe. Isn’t that against the law? Since they had no provocation in the first place, I should think it is unlawful.

Peggy Camp's avatar

Thank you both! Please continue to educate us . The info you shared is invaluable! 🙏

Knowing your rights is good.

But now, exercising your rights gets you shot in the head.

Lisa's avatar

Exactly!! Or “disappeared”..where the hell are the Democrats??

Rick Sorrell's avatar

If you want the Democrats to help, they need your help in taking back the Congress and the Senate. Too many voted for Trump based on his willingness to lie to their faces, and they refused to accept the fact that he's nothing more than a confidence man, and that things would have been much better if democrats had won the White House! For those who sat out the last election, this is what you get when you silence yourself!

Donald Rettmann's avatar

I think many Democrats and also some Republicans (there are a few it seems) are doing what they can. But the fascist takeover of the federal government is complete now, especially since military leaders are now ass lickers.

ICE goons are the administration’s gestapo. The situation in Minneapolis has worsened since the Good killing. Even more ICE goons have been sent in. Governor Walz and Mayor Frey seem to me to be afraid to confront them.

Here’s an article from Steven Schmidt…

“If you don’t want to be compared to fascists, stop acting like fascists.

If you don’t want to be called Nazis, stop using their quotes on your official social media and at the podium for press briefings”.

The Wisconsin situation has frightened me more because it’s evidence of Trump’s actions when the agents follow his orders and create more bedlam. His plan to claim insurrection and increase military presence (as he did today adding 2,000 more troops) delivers his Police State dream.

We must dispose of him and his garbage goons ASAP. Can we really wait until the midterms?

Impeach. Deport. Celebrate.

Lisa's avatar

I agree with you I do think some Democrats are doing what they can-I'm not quite as enthusiastic about GOP..the only solution I can see at this point is through the courts..can we file a class action? Would they even obey the courts?? Perhaps National guard??

Rick Sorrell's avatar

The court is slow, led by republicans (not likely to do anything), and will definitely not remove any republican sycophants from the Congress or Senate. So, it will just be the same BS, just a different day. VOTE them out of office!

Donald Rettmann's avatar

I think they’re gonna ignore court rulings. They already do that now. And the courts don’t have their own enforcement mechanism. They depend on the U.S. Marshals, which is part of the Department of Justice, and of course, Bondi and trump control that, so they aren’t going to enforce court rulings.

Also, almost always, the corrupt “supreme” court overturns court rulings that go against trump and his administration.

Courts can’t even find trump in contempt of court when he ignores court rulings because of the presidential immunity granted to him in July 2024. He’s free to do whatever the hell he wants, including ignoring court rulings.

People like Bondi could be held in contempt of court, but trump would just pardon them.

Even if he could be ruled in contempt, who would punish him?

Lisa's avatar

Agreed -it's a demoralizing circle we're in..

Donald Rettmann's avatar

And regarding the National Guard, trump would send in the marines and army against them.

The military leaders have become obedient to the trump administration rather than the Constitution.

This is going to lead to full blown civil war.

Kathy & Michael's avatar

Dems can't do anything without the help of Republicans... THAT is where the problem lies... and it appears that they are NEVER going to step up to honor their oath of office to defend the Constitution. The ONLY answer is to replace them...

Diane Lee's avatar

Maybe start asking where are the Republicans for a change. THEY presently have the majority. Start standing up for Democrats and not undermine them. When you undermine them, you send the message to others that it's hopeless and therefore it's futile to even vote. That's counterproductive. Democrats are doing as much as they can right now, please don't undermine them in the public eye. 🙏💙🕊️

Rick Sorrell's avatar

Well stated ! I can’t understand for the life of me why people always resort to questioning the actions of Democrats in the Congress and Senate. Simply U.S. civics means 50+ 1 votes in the house 51 votes in the Senate since the VP is a Republican. 66 votes in the senate to make a law veto-proof. We are not there yet, and need to ensure more Democrats are elected during the 2026 mid-terms.

Brandy Agun's avatar

I completely agree with you!!!

Jen's avatar

They are planning for next election. They do not have enough votes to effect a change. I agree that they should have a greater media presence to inform us that they are active and to inform us

Linda Tucker's avatar

Next video: please describe what is a citizen's recourse if ICE violates your rights. If you don't know their names or can see their faces, you cannot identify them individually. Does that matter? And for the record Andrew, I think you're funny. :)

Susan White's avatar

This was an illuminating mini-course in our Civil Rights. Thanks to you both!

Claudia Allred's avatar

That woman was afraid and amazingly brave! I learned a GREAT deal from this video. Thank you very much. Can a person being questioned by masked agents, cover their own face with their scarf or dark glasses?

PJ Cranberry's avatar

Good question 🤔

Claudia Allred's avatar

If I were stopped, the very first thing I would do is pull my scarf over my nose and put my dark glasses on. If they tell me to take off my scarf, I’d tell them likewise. If they want to see my ID, I’d ask them likewise! On tape. With my phone on RECORD!

I love Andrew, total fan-girl, and am grateful for this clear explanation of rights. We are living in a horrible situation, without legal lines being adhered to,(to understate) and I'm afraid it's going to continue to get worse. However, learning my rights, all of our rights, citizens or non, is helpful. Thank you to both Mr. Goodman and Andrew. (My beloved niece is in her 3rd yr at NYU law)

If possible, can you provide subtitles in Spanish or a choice of subtitle translations? Thank you for this excellent, lay-people-friendly, critical information.

great idea! sorry for not thinking of it.

Sc friedley's avatar

Very very helpful. Please continue to do these excellent discussions. If you watched this too, send it to others.

Carey's avatar

It seems like, based on all the videos, ICE agents are violating civil rights pretty consistently at this point. What is the recourse?

They are stopping and beating people based on race. These guys are masked. No real federal agents wear masks. We are at a terrible disadvantage as these guys are untrained, violent, choose brown and black men, women and children. Your premise about the federal agents is not the reality on the streets, in buildings, in homes.

Maureen's avatar

How do I know they are federal agents? There are no badges, names, just thuggery

Kat Pan's avatar

Good question.

At what point did the agent identify himself to her? Do they not see how someone could masquerade as an agent and do away with a person's wallet, ID or disappear the individual? He never gave his name or explained his authority to have the right to violate her privacy. The costume is not enough. With anonymity often comes misbehavior.

Carol R's avatar

Really excellent break down.

Gregory Ferenbach's avatar

@Lisa. Good point. My thought would be to donate to ACLU and other groups. Huge shortage of lawyers to help those whose rights are being routinely violated.

Thank you, Andrew.

This woman did many things “right “ in this interaction: she remained calm, clear, did not escalate, insult, swear, or threaten & behaved with a dignified air, refusing to be intimidated. She stood her ground physically & emotionally;

She used the ‘broken record technique’ to reinforce her “No” without offering new information.

By limiting information she gained a strategic advantage & claimed her personal power. She did not allow the agent to distract or pull her into an argument.

arguewith her & possibly gain ground in an argument..
