Folks: In the last 24 hours there have been 3 different, but related, things going on with respect to government personnel.
1. Trump has sought to fire 17 Inspectors General - that action may have required 30-day notice to Congress before taking this step, but regardless, it strongly indicates a desire to have no independent oversight into what the Trump executive branch does (IGs are to report on “fraud, waste and abuse,” after all).
2. & 3. In the video here I talk about two other steps - the DOJ acting Attorney General fired career DOJ employees who were assigned to the two Trump criminal prosecutions, and the acting DC United States Attorney announced an investigation into prosecutors who worked on the J6 cases and sought felony charges for obstruction of justice. Note that the announcement of both steps is itself unusual and may be the point: to have a chilling effect on current and future career prosecutors.
